CBD Oil
CBD oil is a natural essential oil which is extracted from the flowers and leaves of the Cannabis plant.
CBD oil contains a variety of active compounds such as cannabinoids and terpenes. It has been shown in research to be well tolerated and non toxic to humans.
Depending on formulation of the product it may contain other active and beneficial ingredients such as hemp seed oil, which contains omega fatty acids, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and other beneficial compounds.
Cannabis is a genus of flowering plant in the family Cannabaceae. The number of species within the genus is disputed. Three species may be recognized are Cannabis Indica, Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Ruderalis.
Sativa produce more fibres, therefore the more popular species from which cultivation arose.
Indica is less suitable for forming products of food or industrial purposes. It is more suited for producing marijuana.
Ruderalis is a low-THC species of cannabis which is native to Central and Eastern Europe and Russia.
Hemp versus Marijuana
It is important to know Hemp oil and CBD oil are not the same product. Hemp oil is extracted from the hemp seed and generally used for cooking as a dietary supplement. Hemp oil does not contain CBD or any other Cannabinoids.
Marijuana is high in THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). The compound in marijuana that causes a psychoactive high. It is cultivated mainly for medicinal and recreational purposes.
Hemp is not marijuana but they are both cannabis, although it does contain some cannabinoids. It contained minimal amounts of THC. Industrial hemp is grown for food and fibers. It contains small amounts of cannabinoids and terpenes so is not the best source of CBD oil.
